After the new windshield is installed, follow a few of the guidelines below as it is the first few hours after the new windshield installation is the most critical.
Wait to Drive the Vehicle
The adhesive used keeps the window in place and creates a solid waterproof seal around it. Please give the vehicle the time needed to allow the seal to properly dry and set for at least one hour after the new installation. Our technicians that do the mobile windshield repair and installation in the Greater New Orleans Area will remind you of this.
Further, although we clean any visible glass that we see from the old window, we ask that you be careful when getting back into your vehicle as we are most concerned about everyone’s safety.
Keep the Area By the New Windshield Clean
Do not allow anything to push up against the window replacement while the seal is drying. So for the first day after installation, don’t place any cover on the vehicle’s exterior. Keep the dashboard free of clutter, and do not use a window shade for 24-48 hours after the glass is replaced.
Leave a Window Cracked Open
We also recommend keeping a small crack in one of your windows to help with pressure building up within the car while sitting in a dry and safe area.
Don’t Remove the Retention Tape
Windshield retention tape is often used to help the new glass stay in place. Although this tape may not be your favorite look on the car, it should remain there for the first day or two after the installation. The retention tape will help the windshield during the drying process.
Avoid Car Washes and Power Washers
Avoid car washes and power washes for the first few days after your new windshield installation. The vehicle needs time to dry and create a seal without possibly being moved or shifted.
Go Easy on the New Windshield
Lastly, go easy on your vehicle. Avoid bumpy roads or slamming doors. ThisThese movements can upset the seal, and drying trying to take place.
